I hate the way I'll hear someone in person recite a joke they read online. I have a distaste for the vocabulary people trot around after a few visits with a therapist. I have an aversion to the trendhoppers curating their tastes in accordance with the social ordinance. Don't construct your personality from the community guidelines, and embrace an individualism designed from your own ingenuity.
Question the meaning of the lonliness epidemic, and consider that even friendlessness is fraught with a dependence on bankrupt social influences. Loneliness is not the problem, but an incredible opportunity to strengthen self-mastery. You can languish away when the mania and depression hit, or you can comb over all the reasons they have power of you, and come to understand the parts of your mind that make room for them.
Go with the Greeks and assume all the knowledge you need is already inside you, then honor your responsibility to secure a settled mind. Forget about what Freud wrote, and try to pull yourself together by the analytic spirit. You can engineer your consciousness with the creative marvel innate in your humanity.
What I see is a chronic loss of confidence in our abilities and a futile regard for self-sufficiency. Ideologues compensate for their intellectual confusion by way of hostile condescension. Pornographers cater the depraved by denigrating intimacy. People express hatred for children and substitute their innate parenting instincts with the cult of pet ownership. Ethics are caught downstream from political philosophies with a disregard for lived experience. Weed simulates false revelation, while the emotional and intellectual gears of sobriety atrophy from lack of use.
Marxists have insufferable personalities, always inches away from nihilistic self-destruction. They love Mao's Cultural Revolution, and have been trying to promote their own version of it for decades now. It's been working fairly well. My generation views family as a false promise, personal responsibility as a prison, wisdom as naivety, and beauty itself as fascist.
Pay close attention to the deceitful seduction of mythology, and be weary of how propagandists tug at your heart strings to play you like a fiddle and slow walk you into unconscionable positions. They'll tell you the perpetrators are victims of circumstance, and displace the blame to a vague political abstraction. They'll tell you that illness doesn't need a cure, but should rather be accomodated. They'll tell you to love your community, while letting foreign corporations spoil the success of small business owners in local economies.
We are valorizing irreverent transgressors because America loves antiheroes, but the instinct to praise individualism and non-comformity needs to retain moral substance. We could celebrate free agents who uphend the social order, but do so with decency and class. The times have grown so cynical that the existence of such a leader is inconveivable to the public. Instead they encourage degenerates to fill the void. We don't have to lower our standards, or lose hope.
